This 150,000 SF, LEED Gold, Net Zero facility was built on a 17.5 acre site in the city of Irving, Texas. Project cost was $29,610,423, and construction commenced on May 14, 2010. The project opened its doors for school on August 24, 2011. The building is structural steel frame with a brick and metal panel veneer. There are large expanses of windows for daylight harvesting. There are two stories consisting of classrooms, library, cafeteria, auditorium, and gymnasium. The structure fits on a very tight site with building orientation critical to energy conservation; native landscaping and pervious paving round out the exterior. The school uses extensive shading to minimize solar heat gain and incorporates wind turbines as a part of its onsite renewable energy generation portfolio.

Report on the findings from a field validation study of the LIQUIDARMOR CM Flashing and Sealant technology at the Homeland Security Training Center at the College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn, IL. Blower door test results show the average air leakage rate in the demonstration site to be 0.15 cfm/ft2 at 1.57 psf, or 63 percent lower than the 0.4 cfm at 1.57 psf specified in the 2015 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC). According to the results of the simulation, the Training Center lowered its annual heating and cooling costs by $3,000, or 9 percent, compared to a similar building without an air barrier system.

Article by Autodesk on massing and orientation as important design factors to consider for passive cooling.
The following guide is intended to provide you with an understanding of the value of submetering on a campus and how to set-up and maintain a submetering program. Case studies from four prominent schools are included to illustrate different solutions for campus submetering. To learn more about reducing energy and water consumption on campuses through benchmarking, upgrades and behavior change, review the companion document "Campus Benchmarking Guide."
A white paper that describes the mixed-methods process that architectural firm Perkins-Eastman developed to evaluate school building performance post-occupancy. The paper includes a standard survey tool to assess perceptions and a sensor network and protocol for testing school building performance.
Historic preservation and net zero energy performance may seem like opposing goals. But the modernization of the nearly 100-year-old Aspinall Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse demonstrates that it is possible to restore the former glory of a building's historic features and cut energy use in half. The building is approaching net zero energy and is expected to achieve that goal after controls adjustments and other measures.
Six-page case study of Newcastle Elementary School ZE retrofit, which is classified by NBI as “ZE emerging”— it has a stated ZE goal, but its performance has not yet been verified with 12 months of energy use and generation data.
