The Putney School Net Zero Energy Field House

General Information

Quick Facts

Project Information

The building is a field house incorporating a multi-purpose gym, offices, social gathering area, weight room, ski waxing room and yoga/flex space. Exterior includes indigenous plantings and a production garden.

Environmental Aspects

Core sustainable features include: super-insulated envelope, low electrical use, conventional construction and a PV field that will, over the course of a year, create 100% of the electrical energy required to operate the building. It is an all-electric building with zero carbon-based fuel use. It features low-flow showers and sinks as well as composting toilets to eliminate the need for black water disposal. In short, it uses current technologies married to conventional construction techniques to create a building that uses 100% renewable energy inputs. We expect a LEED Platinum certification as well as the highest EPA Energy Star rating.
