Renewable Ready buildings are those that have taken full advantage of energy efficiency opportunities. After cutting energy consumption by 50 to 70 percent through integrated design and efficient technologies, the next step to lowering the amount of fossil-based energy drawn from the utility infrastructure is to provide the remainder with on-site renewable energy. It is then possible to offset or even exceed the energy consumption of the building on an annual basis.
